Trauma creates a feeling of disconnection.
No one can see the pain and inner turmoil you experience daily – you feel helpless, hopeless, and disconnected.
We can sometimes feel these things when we have experienced trauma. You may feel on edge every day, numb, and terrified to share your feelings because the intense flood of emotions that comes is overbearing.
You fear sharing your deep wounds because people may discover your truth. Confidence is something you don’t have – so forget about it.
These negative emotions follow you everywhere and show up when you least expect them, causing depression to seep into the picture. You want to feel connected to others more than anything, and this seems like an impossible task.
Negative experiences could be the root cause.
Living through negative experiences may be why you feel the way you do. For instance, adverse experiences in childhood or throughout our lifespan can become fragmented and implanted in our brains. Those implanted experiences can cause a very unsettled feeling and could lead to complex stress-related disorders or other traumatic stress-related disorders.
Childhood neglect and abuse can create lasting effects, resulting in shame, guilt, and fear. These deep-seated feelings activate our fight-or-flight response, leaving us feeling like we are in danger.
Sometimes, we have experienced many different traumas within that leave complex wounds, and at other times, we may have experienced one big traumatic event that keeps us up at night. Smells, sounds, and places can bring us back to the scary moments in our life.
The unfortunate truth about trauma is that it shapes what we believe about ourselves and others. Trauma can make us feel like we’re the problem and not good enough. Trying to overcome those feelings is like an uphill battle on ice where you cannot obtain solid footing. We often think that with time, we can heal, but it is not working and never has. Things have been getting worse.
Therapy can help find the proper connection.
Together, we can reprocess the negative experiences you have encountered to recreate positive beliefs about yourself, others, and your environment. We can find the key to unlocking your inner peace.
We can use EMDR to reprocess the negative experiences you have encountered without needing to tell me all the details and relive them again. With professional guidance, you have the power to heal – we all do. We will move the negative beliefs to positive beliefs, and the negative symptoms will begin to fade.
