FAQ

Where is the office located?

I offer telehealth sessions for adults, so the answer to this is on your phone or laptop! My office can travel with you, which allows for more flexibility when life throws curveballs.

I hold therapy sessions for children in person, and the office location is:

1328 North Lake Park Boulevard
Suite 109
Carolina Beach, NC 28428

What are your office hours?
My office hours are Monday – Friday 9:00 – 3:00. I schedule evening sessions and weekend sessions on a case-by-case basis. If this is something you require, please reach out so we can discuss further.
How long is a typical session?
The typical session is around 45 to 60 minutes in length. EMDR sessions can last up to 90 minutes.
What do I do to get started?
GREAT question! To get started, give me a call or email me! I look forward to beginning this journey with you!
Do you accept insurance?
Yes, I do accept insurance. I accept Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, United Healthcare, and Cigna. I am in the process of being credentialed with Tricare.
Can you help me file my insurance?
I submit all the insurance claims on your behalf.
How do I make an appointment?
Give me a call or schedule a consultation call to get started.
Can I cancel an appointment? Do you have a cancellation policy?
I require a 48-hour notice for a cancellation. This advanced notice enables me to plan other activities or meet with others in need. I charge a $50 fee for late cancellations and a full fee for no-shows. I get that things can happen, and communication is everything when things pop up.
What is a free initial phone consultation?
A consultation call helps me learn more about you, your problems, and where you want to go. It is a time to learn more about my therapy and communication style to ensure that this is a good fit for you to move forward and set your first appointment.
Who is your ideal client?
I work with adults and children who want relief from anxious thoughts and behaviors. I help those who want to learn to manage stress, navigate life changes, and heal from past trauma(s).
With what age range do you work?
I work with children, adolescents, and adults between the ages of 5 to 60.
Do you work with people from diverse backgrounds, ethnicities, and religions?
Yes, I am an inclusive therapist who works with people from diverse backgrounds.
What can I expect in the first session?
Our first session together typically dives into the areas of your life where you want to gain insight. Sessions could include traumatic experiences, changes in your life, family stressors, career stressors, and anxious thoughts and behaviors.
What is it like working with you in therapy?
People often say that I have a gentle approach to therapy. We work on complicated things in a safe and nurturing way. Sometimes therapy is hard and uncomfortable; however, I am always with you on your journey.
How long will I be in therapy?
It is hard to determine how long therapy will last. I view therapy as person-centered, and I can confidently say it depends on the areas of growth you want from therapy. Some people enjoy continuing therapy indefinitely to help manage constant life stressors, while others are solution-focused and will complete their journey within a few months.
Does anyone cry in front of you?
Crying is a beautiful release of emotion and a cathartic expression. Sometimes crying is a part of being vulnerable and happens when we least expect it. I hope this is an uncensored experience for you to grow and heal at your highest capacity. Crying may or may not be a part of your experience, which is okay either way.
Who benefits from therapy?
Everyone can benefit from therapy when they are ready for commitment. Therapy takes effort, but we ALL have the capacity for healing and growth. If you are prepared to make this commitment to yourself, then therapy can be beneficial for you.
Is there anyone you won’t see in therapy?

I do not work with individuals actively abusing substances. Working with substance abuse is not my area of specialization. I will be happy to help guide you to a better fit.

I do not work in high conflict cases. Should a high conflict case evolve and require court, I charge a fee of $250 per hour.

What is EMDR?

EMDR is short for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing.

According to EMDRIA, “EMDR is a structured therapy that encourages the patient to briefly focus on the trauma memory while simultaneously experiencing bilateral stimulation (typically eye movements), which is associated with a reduction in the vividness and emotion associated with the trauma memories. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is an extensively researched, effective psychotherapy method proven to help people recover from trauma and PTSD symptoms. Ongoing research supports positive clinical outcomes showing EMDR therapy as a helpful treatment for disorders such as anxiety, depression, OCD, chronic pain, addictions, and other distressing life experiences.”

Do you offer video or phone sessions?

I offer both options in therapy. I firmly believe that therapy is a right, and accessibility is my priority. For those reasons, I conduct virtual therapy and work with individuals all over North Carolina. You should not feel confined to a therapist in your town that has an opening if it does not feel like a good fit for your journey.

Driving across town to rush into a therapy appointment when needing to complete other to-do items seems like unnecessary stress. Research indicates that virtual therapy is as effective as in-person therapy, even with EMDR! So, get cozy with a hot tea, click the link, and I will be online waiting to see you!

Is our work confidential?
Absolutely! Our work together is HIPPA-protected. I use HIPPA-compliant software, and the virtual platform is also HIPPA compliant. I must adhere to confidentiality requirements. The only time this would not be the case is if I feel worried about the immediate safety of you or others.
What are your strengths as a therapist?
Most people say I am empathetic, gentle, and often creative.
What do you enjoy about being a therapist?
I love helping others grow and heal. Being part of peoples’ journeys is an honor, and I love seeing the relief people find through therapy.
Have you been in therapy yourself?
Yes, therapy is a great way to gain insight, self-discovery, and healing. It is a powerful tool that I would encourage everyone to experience.
What is the best way to get in touch with you?
You can call, text, or email me!
Do you prescribe medications?
No, I do not.
Are you licensed?
Yes! I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC). I have Certification as a Rehabilitation Counselor, meaning that I have a holistic approach to therapy and have experience working with people of all abilities.
Do you take notes?
I do take notes! Taking notes helps me ensure we stay on track or identify potential areas of growth that may prove helpful for you in your journey.
Do I have to lie on a couch?
Sure, you can lie on a couch if you want to! Since I am virtual, the best part is that you can enjoy the comfortable furniture that you have in your home!
What apps make your life better?
All the shopping apps! Don’t tell my partner.
Cats or Dogs?
I am a dog person for life! Cats are cool, too; they make me sneeze.
